Research policy

ICSTM research, development and innovation policy

ICSTM sees its role as an academic and applied centre dedicated to scientific research, institutional development, knowledge transfer and the provision of RDI services relevant to the university, doctoral, organisational and socio-economic spheres.

The research policy of ICSTM is aligned with the national and European framework for research, development and innovation, and is guided by scientific research, experimental development, research-based innovation, the dissemination of results, the exploitation of knowledge and its transfer to academic, institutional and business beneficiaries.

In accordance with national regulations on scientific research and technological development, ICSTM treats research as an activity that creates knowledge and generates economic and social progress. The activity of the centre will include fundamental research, applied research, experimental development, institutional analysis, impact studies, scientific publications, academic training and RDI services geared to the needs of beneficiaries.

ICSTM aligns this approach with the principles of the OECD Frascati methodology, according to which research and development involves creative and systematic work aimed at expanding the stock of knowledge and developing new applications. From this perspective, the research promoted by ICSTM must be rigorous, original, methodologically sound, reproducible, transferable and capable of producing academic and applied value.

At national level, the policy of ICSTM is aligned with the National Strategy for Research, Innovation and Smart Specialisation 2022-2027, which promotes the development of the RDI system, support for innovation ecosystems, mobilisation towards innovation, and increased European and international collaboration. ICSTM aims to contribute to these objectives through scientific publications, research projects, doctoral support, academic and institutional partnerships, RDI consultancy, knowledge transfer, and the development of applied instruments for organisations, professional communities and the socio-economic sphere.

At European level, ICSTM aligns its research policy with the principles of the European Research Area, by promoting scientific cooperation, open science, researcher mobility, academic integrity, responsible assessment and the social impact of research.

Within this framework, ICSTM does not confine itself to producing scientific publications, but seeks to build an ecosystem of applied research, academic training and RDI services. The centre will support the preparation of articles, books and book chapters, the development of research projects and reports, the critical evaluation of manuscripts, support for doctoral candidates and researchers, the design of research methodologies and instruments, and the provision of specialist services for public institutions, private organisations, universities, doctoral schools and partners from the socio-economic sphere.
