Assessment of Elemental Content by ICP-MS

The RDI service dedicated to the assessment of elemental content by ICP-MS provides the highly sensitive determination of trace and ultratrace metals in a wide range of sample types. Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, the service allows the accurate detection and quantification of heavy metals, pollutants and metallic impurities in environmental, food, cosmetic and industrial samples and in advanced materials.

The service can be applied to the analysis of water quality, including drinking water, waste water, surface water and groundwater, as well as to the analysis of soil, sediments, vegetation and particles collected on filters. It is also suitable for food safety assessment, the analysis of beverages and agricultural products, and the testing of cosmetic products in order to identify metallic impurities. In industrial and materials-related applications, ICP-MS supports the determination of trace metals in chemical products, high-purity materials, alloys, polymers and other technologically relevant matrices.

The potential beneficiaries include companies, laboratories, research institutions and public authorities active in fields such as environmental monitoring, the food industry, agriculture, metallurgy and the iron and steel industry, semiconductor production, cosmetics and materials testing. The service supports quality control, compliance with regulatory requirements, contamination assessment, the verification of product safety and the optimisation of industrial and technological processes.

Delivering the service requires an ICP-MS spectrometer, a microwave digestion system, PTFE digestion vessels and accessories, volumetric flasks, autosampler tubes, equipment for grinding and sieving the samples, argon and helium gases, mineralisation reagents specific to the matrix, standards for calibration and method verification, as well as other auxiliary materials required for sample preparation and analysis.
