Assessment of Carbon and Sulphur Content in Solid Samples Using the Multi EA 4000

The RDI service "Assessment of carbon and sulphur content in solid samples using the Multi EA 4000" provides analytical measurements relevant to the characterisation of environmental, food, agricultural and industrial solid samples. Using the Multi EA 4000 analyser, the service makes it possible to determine the carbon and/or sulphur content in soils, plant materials, agri-food products, construction samples, ash, residues and other solid materials of interest for research, technological control and quality verification.

The analyses carried out support activities such as monitoring the quality of soils and plant materials, assessing the composition of samples originating from agriculture, controlling food products, verifying parameters relevant to food safety and preservation, and characterising materials resulting from industrial processes. The service is also useful for evaluating combustion efficiency and the quality of the resulting ash, including fly ash from thermal power plants.

The beneficiaries of the service may be companies, research institutes, laboratories, public authorities and economic operators in fields such as environmental protection, agriculture, the food industry, materials production and processing, construction and energy. The data obtained contribute to sound decisions on the quality of raw materials, the conformity of the samples analysed, the optimisation of processes and the reduction of the risks associated with the presence of carbon and sulphur in different types of solid materials.

The measurements are performed using specialised analytical infrastructure, including the Multi EA 4000 analyser, ceramic boats or crucibles, high-purity oxygen, a drying oven, a mortar and pestle or a mill for grinding the samples, a precision balance, a sieve, magnesium perchlorate, standard materials for calibration and method verification, and auxiliary equipment for sample preparation. This infrastructure makes it possible to obtain reproducible results, relevant to research applications, quality control and technological assessment.
